      <image:caption>As shown in its onboarding and in the breakdown of features used during Nurture’s promotion, accessibility was a driving force behind the development of this application. All aspects of it are designed in a way to empower the user through an experience tailored specifically to their needs. A wide variety of human-centred design techniques and empathy-driven processes were harnessed throughout bringing Nurture to fruition, such as journey mapping, utilising the 5 Whys, and designing a persona based on my user. Due to the intimate nature of these processes, it allowed Nurture to imbued with the same high degree of connectivity between user and application that I always aim to achieve between myself and those I work with. On top of that, Nurture was also just a straight up blast to create because, hey, who doesn’t love plants?</image:caption>

      <image:caption>This project required focus to be delivered on not just creating a smooth-flowing desktop website, but also to ensure that its mobile counterpart operated equally as effectively, and that all converted properly when switching between the two platforms in order to not disrupt the user &amp; customer experience. What I loved about this project is that while a fair portion of the design work involved was within my forte, there were just as many aspects to it that I was learning for the first time while completing the project, especially in regard to designing an eCommerce-based outlet and the coding involved when editing the language of the site’s inner workings.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Check-In - Early Days</image:title>
      <image:caption>In its conceptual stages, Check-In was initially designed to utilise text-based entries and categorise them into life sections for the user, such as their relationships or their wealth. From here, they would be able to manage their stress based on the types of entries they lodged, such as levels of stress linked to particular scenarios, and so on. Through user-testing and further research, the notion of harnessing the power of voice eventually became the foundation of Check-In. This arose from the findings within studies of the power of effective self-talk, such as using phrases as “I’ve got this” when reinforcing to yourself the grasp you have over a challenging situation.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Work - Check-In - “Talking back to my own anxiety felt incredibly supportive. I didn’t realise how reassuring and powerful my own voice could be”</image:title>
      <image:caption>Quotes such as the one above are what led to Check-In being the most rewarding project I have worked on so far. Five participants took part in the overall process and utilised the application over two sessions. The first session involved them talking to themselves about the biggest stressor in their lives at that point in time; the second session involved listening back to the first, and elaborating on the status of the stressor as well as how it felt hearing their emotions through their voices from the previous session. All five participants had highly varied stressors and operate within different environments; from working in child protection services, to losing a job during the pandemic, to having not seen their partner for multiple days due to him relapsing from his medication and disappearing. Yet regardless of their differences, based on the results that this application provided as well as the content of their actual recordings and what they were acknowledging out loud, all five of them shared the collective train of thought that due to Check-In they were able to gain a far stronger hold of their stress than what they could’ve without it.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The Eight Principles of Yong were the foundation on which Chenjin was constructed, as these rules dictated the all of the most common practices of script using just the one character, such as stroke order and direction. I carried this notion into Chenjin by designing the characters of its alphabet in a way that included its own specific guidelines inspired by the aforementioned principles, as this would allow me to maintain a much higher level of consistency throughout the aesthetic of my typeface.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>In order to continue with the level of authenticity I’d set out to achieve from the conception of this typeface, I practiced bringing it to life initially by using various ink and watercolour brushes, to truly capture the look and feel of how a traditional brush could create these characters. Upon finalising this step of the design process, I digitally transferred the characters to Illustrator, where I could then fine-tune the strokes and their form to bring to a level of finesse that enabled them to be utilised for my desired purpose.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The inspiration for this project came from my own experiences of moving home multiple times throughout my childhood, living in completely opposite sections of Australia from coast to coast, and the feelings of isolation that came with being the new kid at school again and again. Unknowingly at the time, this constant form of movement would eventually become the love of travel that comprises a vast amount of who I am today, but knowing how it feels at that young age to feel quite alone and wishing there was a way to expand my connections, it prompted me to dabble in the creation of a potential solution.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Your World was designed as an online, interactive social learning experience that students are able to be immersed in throughout both their time in primary school as well as the transitional period into high school, during dedicated times of their class curriculums. It will enable all students to design a profile based on where they’re from, prompting them to pick the area of the world they’re living in, and will in turn ensure to give them the opportunities to connect with new friends both within and outside of their current locale, in order to not restrict their exposure. Students will also have the option to pick whether this is a new home for them or if they’re always lived here: if they’re new to an area, then Your World will ensure to show connections to other users who live there, and vice versa if they’re not new, they will have extra connections to those who are new to a town highlighted, in order to maximise the chance of establishing friendships with those that they may not initially know that they share anything in common with.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>Upon further customisation of their own profiles by adding information such as pets, favourite foods &amp; sports, hobbies, dream jobs, and so on, the students will then have free reign over establishing connections with others their age all around the world, establishing these links through expressive interactive keywords that will float through the hub, all of which are derived from the shared commonalities added by the students as they populate the platform. The more connections students create, the more alive Your World becomes for them, with the stars that fill the skies in their online portals representing the students around the world that they have become friends with through the platform. A star appears every time a new friendship is established, and this is achieved through simple means such as commenting and liking posts on each others walls, sharing hobbies, and so on. This is all on top of the ever-present algorithm that fuels Your World to connect users around the planet, increasing their overall sense of belonging, and allowing them to feel home in more places than one.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>What an absolute ripper of a project this was. The task was to create the first member of a new family of beer aiming to breach the market, in which each beer would be representative of a well-known beach town within the country. For its inaugural offering, Beach Brews was after not only the logo for the brand itself, but also a packaging design for their new Gold Coast Lager.</image:caption>

      <image:caption>The logo of Beach Brews didn’t start off as the design featured on the can. Prior to what’s shown, I’d experimented with a logo that focused a lot harder on visually encompassing the laidback nature of the Coast, and what better way to do so than chucking up a shaka. Beach Brews also wanted their logo to be designed with the notion in mind that it will be used on collateral outside of cans such as clothing and other merchandise, so mockups were created on shirts for them to show the vibes of this initial aesthetic. I moved away from this design though after experimenting with less, and being able to turn it into more.</image:caption>
